After 13 years of college and enough student loans to purchase a small suburban home I’ve earned the right to make my own schedule, teach courses in my field of expertise, and work on projects that interest me. The formula for children in the U.S. can be summed up in one word, I think: “harsh.” And the response we should have to this formula is “inexcusable.”
